“Animal-free” circus, outdoor opera and more things to do this weekend

Animal-free circus in Littleton

Wednesday-July 25. If you’ve avoided the old-school pleasures of a traveling circus because of the industry’s dicey history with captive animals, fear not: Venardos Circus — a “Broadway-style,” animal-free circus — will raise its tent Sunday for a Wednesday, July 14, debut at Aspen Grove Shopping Center. Kids and adults can take in the “Broadway music-style performances” along with acrobatics, juggling, “daredevilry,” magic and more.

Created by former Ringling Bros. ringmaster Kevin Venardos, the circus opens at 7 p.m. Wednesday, following a sold-out pre-show that seats 300 (the usual capacity). Each hour-and-a-half performance includes a 10-minute intermission. Shows run Wednesday-Sunday at 7301 S. Santa Fe Drive in Littleton. Some dates are already sold out. Tickets: $15 for kids, $25 for adults at liveyourcircusdreams.com. — John Wenzel

“Rigoletto” on the Front Range

Saturday-July 27. The latest offering from Colorado’s excellent Central City Opera arrives at Littleton’s Hudson Gardens on Saturday — potentially saving a trip to the high country for Front Range residents. The open-air performance of Verdi’s classic “Rigoletto” follows “Carousel” in Central City Opera’s remade 2021 season, which clipped its usual festival offerings. Without shows in its opera house, Central City has adapted its rigorous productions to the more casual outdoor environs: reduced length, no intermissions, and bathrooms visits at any time (instead of just intermission).

Performances take place at 6115 S. Santa Fe. Drive Saturday through July 27; the opera’s $75 general-admission tickets are on sale at centralcityopera.org. — John Wenzel

Snag your invite to WeldWerks’ fall fest

Saturday. WeldWerks Brewing Co.’s renowned beer festival, the WeldWerks Invitational, isn’t happening until Halloween weekend, but don’t sleep on buying tickets or you’ll miss your chance. The event, which brings 40-plus highly sought after beverage makers from around the country to Greeley, has sold out every year since its debut in 2018.

Tickets to the 2021 installment cost $125 and go on sale to the general public via Eventbrite at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10. Once you snag one for the morning (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) or afternoon session (4 to 7 p.m.), mark your calendar for Oct. 30 at the DoubleTree at Lincoln Park in Greeley. This year’s invitees include Brooklyn’s Other Half Brewing Co., Texas’ Jester King Brewery, Oklahoma’s American Solera, Wisconsin’s Untitled Art and more. weldwerks.com/weldwerks-invitational — Tiney Ricciardi

Glamping in the city

Friday-Sunday. This weekend is the last Glamp AF Market for the summer 2021 season in The Alley at Dairy Block. This glamorous, outdoorsy market brings camping and adventure-related fashion, footwear and homegoods to those who prefer a little zazz in their wilderness.

Sip, eat and mingle with some of your favorite brands including Danner, Adventure Backpack Co. and Breckenridge Brewing. You can also enter to win the American Field Glamp AF Giveaway, which boasts over $3,000 in prizes. Reminder: the giveaway closes on Tuesday, July 13. The Glamp AF Market is free to the public and will run from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 1800 Wazee St. shopaf.co/pages/glamp-af-denver — Ashley Carter

Quilting a comeback

Through Sunday. This year’s 27th annual Quilt, Craft & Sewing Festival almost didn’t happen, as was the case with so many other events. But that just makes the gathering more meaningful for its thousands of loyal attendees.

Dozens of booths will showcase workshops along with supplies, patterns and techniques for quilting, sewing, needle-arts, stenciling, embossing, crystals, fabric crafts and more. The event takes over Arapahoe County Fairgrounds through Sunday and includes free on-site parking. 25690 E. Quincy Ave. in Aurora. $9-$10 entry, 12 and under free. quiltcraftsew.com — John Wenzel
