A large portion of Colorado will be under a high wind warning beginning Wednesday. Though County is not under the warning, it will still be breezy throughout the city.

Chinook winds will warm the air significantly in Denver on Wednesday as the city has a high of 64 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The sunny day will have a south southwest wind around 10 mph, becoming west northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Increasing clouds will lead to a partly cloudy evening with a low of 26 degrees as wind gusts could pick up to 40 mph. In the foothills, gusts of 70 to 80 mph are expected, while the plains will have gusts up to 65 mph.

The high wind warning is in effect for the foothills from noon Wednesday through noon Friday. Mountain peaks could have gusts over 100 mph. For the rest of the plains, the warning is in effect from midnight Thursday through 6 p.m. Thursday.

A cold front in the early morning Thursday will keep the high around 40 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Denver will have sustained 25 mph gusts that once again could reach 40 mph. The breeze will stick around into the evening as the temperature drops to 22 degrees. The mountains could see some snow.

A still windy Friday will have a high of 48 degrees. The wind should die down Friday night as the temperatures dip to 28 degrees.

A slight chance of snow is in the forecast for Saturday.
