Investigators have arrested a murder suspect in the Cherry Hills Village death of Sylvia Quayle, authorities announced Thursday at a news conference.
David Dwayne Anderson, 62, was arrested on Feb. 10 in Nebraska, according to Cherry Hills Village Police Chief Michelle Tovrea.
Family members of Quayle, who was 35 at the time of her death, found her body on Aug. 4, 1981, inside her home.
“I am proud to be able to tell Sylvia’s sister and brother-in-law that the men and women of our department have anticipated the opportunity to make this announcement for almost 40 years,” Tovrea said. “My thoughts are with the family, we can only try to understand the deep pain and sense of loss you have experienced. I am pleased there is a path moving
forward to seek justice in her death.”
In January of 2020, Metro Denver Crime Stoppers and United Data Connect used new information identifying Anderson as a suspect in the case. An arrest warrant for Anderson was issued in January.
Investigators worked with the Cozad Police Department and the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office in taking Anderson into custody in Nebraska, where he is being held.
A first-degree murder warrant has been issued and the suspect is awaiting extradition to Colorado. No court dates will be scheduled in Colorado until Anderson is present in the Arapahoe County jail.
